The
Feast of St Peter & St Paul

Jesus put this question to his
disciples: “Who do people say the Son of
Man is?” That would not seem like a question
that we would be able to answer today. But for
us it can be translated into the question of:
“where do people look for their happiness,
their fulfilment, their hope?” Everyone
is looking for these in their lives, some in very
strange places. The second question Jesus asks
is: “Who do you say I am?” And Peter
answers: “You are the Christ, the Son of
the living God.” The core of our Christian
faith is that Jesus is the only one who can teach
us true human living. He teaches it very clearly
as the way of love. That is the only way to happiness
and fulfilment and hope – the only way to
the fullness of life. This has huge implications
for us in marriage, the sacrament of love; in
family life, the school of love; and in our faith
community, the prophet of love. The practice of
our faith is measured mainly by how we love God
with our whole hearts and how we love one another.
