Twenty Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mission Sunday

Reflection

EXTRACT FROM THE MESSAGE OF POPE BENEDICT XV1 FOR MISSION SUNDAY 2007

Mission Sunday
On the occasion of world Mission Sunday I ask the whole people of God - bishops, priests, men and women religious and lay men and women - to reflect together on the urgency and the importance of the Church's missionary activity in our day.

Prayer
The primary contribution we are called to offer for the Church's missionary activity is prayer. Pray that His Kingdom may come on earth. I appeal especially to children and young people who are ever ready for generous missionary activity. I address the sick and the suffering, mindful of the value of their mysterious and indispensable collaboration with the work of redemption.
I ask consecrated persons, especially enclosed orders, to intensify their prayers for the missions. I ask for a spiritual network of prayer to sustain evangelisation.

Mary
May the Blessed Virgin Mary help us realise that we are all missionaries, all sent by the Lord to be His witnesses in every moment of our life.

Pope Benedict XV1

Greetings to Fr Dolan & parishioners from Aisling Brown
in Zambia. Everything is going well despite the occasional
hiccup including the humid hot weather; no rain in four months.. The people are friendly, she has been working with a paralegal team on peoples rights and is moving into educating children about their rights. The people understand English but have a difficultly with the Bellaghy version!!!
As she keeps in touch with Bellaghy/ Derry results, she no doubt awaits good news this weekend!!

It is with pleasure that we receive the news this week of
Dr Sean Brady’s elevation to the College of Cardinals.
We hope the red hat rests lightly on his head!!!!

Derry Diocesan Pioneer Mass
We regret that it was not possible to host this event in our church today due to the County Final replay. We appreciate Granaghan’s
willingness to take it on. We are grateful to the Diocesan Pioneer Council for their understanding and co-operation

Pope Benedict reminds us that the absence of God in the lives of
millions is the greatest suffering. People are hungry for God, not just for bread and freedom. Please help the missionaries to reflect God’s love with the support of your prayer, offering of suffering and a generous financial contribution.
