Courage, it is I

Jesus said to his disciples: “Courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.” Fear is identified in the Scriptures as the single greatest enemy of life and love. It affects everything we do and everything we hope for. Courage, on the other hand, is one of the qualities we most need to develop if we are to live and love and hope to the full. It takes courage for any woman and man to pledge their love for the rest of their lives in marriage. It takes even more courage to live that out any way fully. It takes courage for parents to have children and even more so to bring them up to be people of hope and confidence. And it takes courage to believe in Christ and to live out that belief in everyday life. This kind of courage for the sake of all that is best in our lives means making decisions that are in favour of what we hold dear. These decisions can often mean denying ourselves things for a greater good. They can also mean going against the norm that is around us.
