Sunday 4th January 2009

Second Sunday after Christmas

Christ, the Wisdom of God.

“The Word was made flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory.” It is the beginning of a new calendar year and I am thinking of all the wonderful married couples that I have met over many years of my priesthood. Thank you for being the hope of the Church and the world simply through your love for one another. It is said that the ‘the glory of God is humanity fully alive’. That is found in a very special way in your committed love in marriage and this new year is a really good time to renew your love and set out to make this year 2009 a time of joy and gladness for one another and for all of us. At this time of New Year’s resolutions it would be to the glory of God and the good of all if we were to make the health and well-being of marriage and family life our main concern this year, as couples, as families, and as a parish community. What could you put in place that would help this?

Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.

PRAYER

In the year that has ended, O Lord, God, hear my voice and my prayers.
My heart tries to express my gratitude for all the benefits I received.
I am grateful for every moment of my life,
Your kindness and support,
For the light and happiness, the dark and painful moments in our homes,
And for the strength and energy you have given me.
I had difficult and lonely hours, but you cheered me in my sadness.
Many tears ran down my face, but you taught me
to understand the designs of life.
With great humility, I turn my face to you, my Lord.
Give me strength to serve you with all my heart in the year ahead;
Make me more prudent, more kind, more steadfast in faith.
Help me to find the wisdom that will guide me through life.
You are the source of richness, of life and light.
Bless me, all your human family, and all creation.
Grant those who call on you Lord,
Freedom ,justice and peace. Amen

A Happy and Peaceful New YearTo all our Parishioners.
