Third
Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Follow
me and I will make you into fishers of people.”
Those words
of Jesus, which are given to us for this week, are usually
thought of as being addressed to people with a vocation
to the priesthood or religious life. They are about
vocation certainly but are addressed to each of us.
The four great vocations in the Church are single life,
married life, religious life and priesthood. All of
us who are baptised are living one of those and each
of us is vital to the health of the whole body, the
Church. We live our vocations in different ways but
to the same end, the salvation of the world. Our task
is to discover how to live our own vocation to the full.
This means discovering how to make our love radiate
out to those around us. We begin in our homes with those
who are closest to us. Then we can reach out to the
world around us. When we are with Christ and following
him love will be the characteristic of our lives.

Dear Fr. Dolan
On behalf of the families
and communities who benefit from your generosity, I
would like to thank you for your kind donation of £12,355
to our East Africa Emergency Appeal. I would be grateful
if you could convey our sincere gratitude to all your
parishioners for their thoughtful generosity.
It is estimated that up
to 13 million people face life threatening food and
water shortages in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya. As
Trócaire is already working in the region we
are able to respond quickly through our local partners,
and have dedicated more resources to this area to help
families survive this crisis.
In the worst drought-affected
areas Trócaire will provide drought resistant
seed and livestock. A scheme will also be run to move
animals to locations that still have sufficient grazing,
preventing them from succumbing to the drought, and
protecting the livelihoods of families that rely on
them.
Trócaire will also
be involved in projects to provide families with an
immediate water supply and to develop water harvesting
infrastructure so communities can retain water when
the rains arrive later this year.
I would like to highlight
once again our deep appreciation for your kind donation.
Your support, particularly in these difficult times,
is hugely important to us and vital in our efforts to
ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable in the world
are not forgotten.
Yours sincerely
Eithne McNulty
Regional Manager
